It was around 15 years ago, when a diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome had brought my life to a very painful halt, that I became interested in food and nutrition and how it impacts our health, energy and general day-to-day experience of life.
After much research I found answers that made sense to me within the world of food and nutrition. They made sense because I had a huge insight around how food has the capacity to change our energy levels, and supports how well the body performs its functions. My curiousity and experience of which foods gave me energy and which ones sapped my energy became so great that it subesquently played a large part in getting me well again. This initial curiosity and light bulb moment made me realise instantly that a complete career change was on the cards too.
After years of training and research in this area my focus shifted to the health of the mind. For a healthy body without a healthy mind is pretty pointless and today I understand how intrinsically inter-linked they both are.
Alongside this period of time was my growing interest in ‘personal development’ with seminars, workshops and books galore with names that I am sure many of you may be familiar with; Louise Hay, Tony Robbins, Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle and David Hamilton to name but a few.
I thought that if what I’d learnt about health and nutrition could support my physical health, then the other areas in my life I was struggling with could do with some expert ‘personal development’ learning too. Of course I’d forgotten the most important part of my learning, which was that the insight around my nutrition and health came from ME.
You see we are not clones, none of the 7 billion of us on the planet fit neatly into a template on how to live our lives. There is only one of YOU, your circumstances and experience of life is unique to only you, so anyone else’s wisdom may have merit and may be partially helpful, but may not be a good fit for you. On top of that, it’s really hard work to follow someone else’s inner compass and gives you less chance of a quiet mind to allow your own intuition to appear.
MY BIGGEST LESSON?
The clue is in the words ‘self development’. The field of self development is built on the basis that our ‘self’ needs ‘developing’, which is just not true!
It took me a few years to realise that I am perfect already, as are YOU. The only thing that gets in the way of us seeing and experiencing that, is a whole bunch of concepts and beliefs that we build up over a lifetime - and of course in the mode of learning about personal development - we have a tendency to add to that too!
If you have spent time looking to the personal development field for answers and are still left wanting then this could be the end of your search.
If you truly want to connect with this truth within yourself, and don’t just mean take my word for it, but truly insightfully see it for yourself, then I am running a very special Weekend event this April.
