We have had amazing weather here in the UK for the last few weeks and our summer holidays to far shores are fast approaching. Yes, it's that time of year again where we are keen to look our best as we strip down to the scantiest of clothing.
I’m really not a fan of diets, especially short-lived fad diets. I am a fan however of introducing healthy new habits that make you feel and look great. Green smoothies have grown enormously in popularity in recent months and when you give it a go you’ll see why. Fans of the glowing green smoothie include Drew Barrymore, Ben Stiller, Gwyneth Paltrow, Emily Blunt and Kim Cattrall.
We can all do with eating more vegetables no matter what our staple diet is, especially as the nutrients found in today’s average vegetables are anywhere between 5 to 40% lower in minerals than 50 years ago. Green vegetables are the crème de la crème of vegetables for our health. The phrase ’eat your greens’ takes us back to our childhood and thanks to the blender, this has never been easier or tastier, even for those that don’t like greens – I swear you won’t taste them!
The vibrant green colour from a green smoothie is provided by chlorophyll, a nutrient rich pigment found in dark leafy greens like spinach, kale, celery, parsley and other salad leaves. The chlorophyll helps to detox the liver by clearing out harmful toxins that we are exposed to on a daily basis and oxygenates the blood giving your skin that vital healthy glow. The fibre cleanses the colon and the blood sugar balancing nutrients will help not only with weight loss but food cravings too.
Do not be fooled by pre-prepared, packaged smoothies as they have been pasteurised, a heat treatment which kills bacteria to prolong shelf life and therefore no longer leaves your glass of fruit and veggies raw, destroying vitamins, minerals and enzymes in the process. All the reasons we are having it in the first place! It is so easy to do yourself, all you need is a blender.
Join the smoothie revolution to see a radiant new you.
