I’m lucky enough to have never bought into the ‘rescued by a handsome prince’ life story that so many girls are led to believe and buy into.
However some things would have made life a whole lot easier had I known them in my early turbulent years of dating.
What if I told you that the experience of being in love and relationships could surpass the nonsense that the happy ever after stories tell you?
There are 2 vital things you need to know and that would have made such a difference to me all those years ago and even through my first few years of marriage, (we got very close to separating a couple of times).
1. When in an intimate relationship your experience of your partner comes to you only through thought. You are NEVER experiencing your partner in their true, pure form. When I ‘got this’ on a very deep level - and I don’t mean the ‘yeah I know that’ type of response - I mean truly deeply understood, the following happened; arguments and blaming became pretty pointless, I saw that it was my thought that created my experience of my husband and so started to experience him in a different way, (of course he hadn’t changed, just my perception had) and I fell in love with my husband all over again.
2. Love is your natural state of being. Your experience of loving someone is coming totally from you and not the other person. When you experience being in love it is because you are deeply connected to yourself. This means that in any intimate relationship you don’t need anything from your partner, which is truly freeing for you and them. That’s not to say that being in a relationship isn’t a truly beautiful experience, but thinking you need something from someone, especially love and approval is very stressful. Seeking love is how you lose sight of it.
YOU have the capacity to feel love with or without another person. YOU are love. YOU can’t lose love, only the awareness that it is there all the time. When you experience a quiet mind, love shows up in bucket loads. My ‘happy ever after’ story has been way better than any Disney film.
