I didn’t know it at the time, but when I look back on my period of ill health with chronic fatigue syndrome, I had a crazy busy mind and this without question fed into my ill health.
2 things are really significant to me when I reflect back:
1. Who teaches you that having a busy mind like a running hamster wheel is a sign of mental ill health?
2. Why do so few people understand the mechanism behind how the mind works?
It’s second nature to me now knowing this, but I used to believe all my thoughts were ‘real’. The constant stream of thought I used to live with and pay attention to was exhausting. I thought that there was one true reality, one right way to see and do things, one true correct interpretation of a situation and one definite way of dealing with things.
In my practice when seeing clients, it is so clear to me that those that suffer with ill health, and the degree with which they suffer, is intrinsically linked to how busy their minds are with repetitive, circulating thoughts.
We are built for reality. When I write this, I mean that when we see that we create our experience from thought and that at any given moment our feelings are telling us what is going on in our thoughts. Our feelings are not telling us about the state of the weather, the traffic, how busy we are, how irritating our partner and children can be etc. etc. Our feelings are telling us about one thing, and one thing only: the form in which our thoughts are taking in any given moment. Believing anything other than this creates a chemical reaction in the body. Repeatedly believing this, i.e. that we are at the mercy of the world and everything out there, has a repeated detrimental chemical effect on the body. Long term this can have devastating consequences for our health, as it did with mine all those years ago.
If you want to experience what it’s like to quieten down your thoughts, touch the peace within you that is the 'real' you and are ready for a radical transformation, then join me this Saturday:
